Vancouver police are appealing for a potential witness whose Tesla may have captured video that could help investigators solve a distraction theft targeting a senior earlier this summer.
According to the news release, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is investigating a June 23 distraction theft that saw a 73-year-old woman’s necklace stolen.
Investigators canvassed the scene for CCTV footage and, after reviewing it, believe a grey Tesla parked in the 500-block of Lillooet Street between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. that day may have captured additional video, according to the news release. Police say the driver may also have witnessed the theft.
“Unfortunately, we’ve seen a number of cases like this in recent months in which elderly people are targeted, and their precious family heirlooms stolen,” said Constable Megan Lui. “These are vulnerable victims just out and about living their lives. We want to be able to retrieve this jewelry and return it to its rightful owner.”
The police appeal to anyone with information to call 604-717-3321 to speak with investigators.
