District of West Vancouver councillor Linda Watt has announced her campaign for re-election to the Council, saying she wants to continue advocating for responsible governance, fiscal accountability and the community’s future.
According to the news release, she said elected representatives should be prepared to ask difficult questions, challenge assumptions and make independent decisions based on residents’ best interests.
Watt also highlighted her changing perspective on seniors’ care and family caregiving following her own experience over the past year. She said municipalities have an important role in advocacy, planning and supporting appropriate facilities, despite health and long-term care being largely provincial responsibilities.
According to the news release, Watt supported the approval of the new Inglewood Care Centre and said she wants to continue that work. During her current term, Watt said she has focused on municipal finances, infrastructure, environmental protection, development pressures and the long-term effects of decisions made by senior governments and regional authorities.
“West Vancouver is a remarkable community, but we face some very real challenges,” Watt said, pointing to infrastructure demands, rising costs, housing and development pressures, transportation constraints and decisions from senior governments.
According to the news release, Watt said her campaign will focus on practical local government, transparency and accountability while protecting the characteristics that make West Vancouver a desirable place to live.
Watt is inviting residents to engage with her campaign in the months ahead and said she looks forward to hearing about their priorities for the next term of Council.
