‘We need to speak to you right away’: Witnesses, video sought in Lynn Valley stabbing

IHIT is also asking people to not post videos of victims being stabbed to social media

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is asking witnesses to contact police and are seeking video footage of today’s stabbing incident in and outside the Lynn Valley library.

Cpl. Frank Jang of North Vancouver RCMP said police are speaking to several witnesses, but because they are in the early stage of their investigation, they need every possible witness to contact IHIT or the North Van RCMP.

IHIT can be contacted at 1-877-551-4448, and North Vancouver RCMP can be contacted at 604-985-1311.

“If you were here or you know or heard anything suspicion, if you may be even heard the man that was taken into custody say something, whatever the case may be, we need to speak to you right away, or better yet come to the detachment,” Jang said.

He also urged those who may have video footage of the incident to come forward.

“If you were driving in the Lynn Valley area and you have dashcam footage or any video, or you were just here and or you were pointing in the direction of the library (with camera), we need that footage right away,” he said.

He confirmed that one woman succumbed to her injuries in the knife attack.

Jang said there is video taken of the victims being stabbed.

“We ask that you don’t share it to social media, we ask that you respect the victims of this afternoon’s heinous act,” he said.

In a statement, DNV Mayor Mike Little also encouraged any witnesses to contact the police.

“I appreciate the quick action and excellent teamwork of our first responders, our District Fire and Rescue Services, the RCMP, and our North Shore partners from the City and West Vancouver. I encourage any witnesses to contact the North Van RCMP to help them with their investigation.’
