The District of West Vancouver has completed a project to install a new permanent underwater watermain connecting Eagle Island to the mainland.
According to the Facebook post by the District of West Vancouver, the work addresses recent water service interruptions, replaces aging infrastructure, and improves overall system reliability. The upgrade had previously been identified as part of the District’s short-term capital plan due to frequent breaks, and a specialized condition assessment completed following a service interruption confirmed the project as a priority.
Construction began on April 7, 2026, and was completed in June 2026. According to the district’s website, the project was carried out in three phases: excavation and exposure of the existing watermain on both the mainland and Eagle Island, along with underground field investigations; installation of a temporary underwater watermain to maintain service during construction; and installation of the new permanent underwater watermain.
The permanent watermain was floated to the island before being sunk, connected to the water system, and buried. The permanent underwater watermain is now connected to the existing watermain system.
