West Vancouver police arrested a 36-year-old man of no fixed address after finding him with luggage he had stolen moments ago from a home in the community.
Cesar Lopez was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
A WVPD officer observed Lopez boarding a bus at Park Royal around 2 pm on November 14, and noticed he hadn’t paid the fare. While talking to Lopez, the officer grew suspicious about the luggage Lopez was carrying with him.
Other officers were able to confirm the luggage had in fact been stolen from a home nearby. The man was subsequently arrested, and police discovered numerous stolen household items and electronics inside the luggage.
“This officer was in the right place at the right time and demonstrated great proactive investigative skills,” said Kevin Goodmurphy, the communication officer for WVPD.
Lopez will now appear in North Vancouver court on December 4.
