West Van police impounds two luxury cars for speeding on Highway 99

Staff report
June 29, 2022 2:05pm

West Vancouver Police have impounded two Lamborghinis after they were observed allegedly travelling at a high rate of speed up to 156 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone.

On June 24, 2022, on Highway 99, just North of Ansell Pl, a WVPD Traffic Section officer observed two Lamborghinis travelling Northbound in tandem at a high rate of speed. The officer determined that the two Lamborghinis were allegedly travelling at a speed of 156 km/hr by using a radar device.

The vehicles were stopped by police and the operators were issued violation tickets of $368 for Excessive Speed. Both vehicles were impounded for seven days under provincial legislation. As the summer months continue, the WVPD is urging drivers to slow down.

According to ICBC, on average, 26 people are killed every year in the Lower Mainland from speed-related crashes.

“When drivers choose to speed, it puts everyone at risk” says Constable Nicole Braithwaite. “As we continue to see nicer weather, we see an increase in vehicles as well as motorcycles driving at high rates of speed. Our officers will be stepping up enforcement during these next couple of months in an effort to help change this dangerous behavior.”

Anyone who witnesses high risk driving behavior in West Vancouver is asked to contact WVPD at 604-925-7300, and if possible, be able to provide details such as license plates and vehicle descriptions.
