West Vancouver Police Department arrested a suspect fleeing from a break-in using police dogs and an air unit after responding to a call in the British Properties’ King Georges Way area. A resident monitoring security cameras called the police while the break-in was happening. The suspects tried to flee when officers came. With the help of a police K9 unit and Air One, one suspect was arrested, and all stolen property was recovered.
Break-ins reported across West Vancouver
Police also responded to multiple break-and-enter incidents in West Vancouver. In the British Properties’ Finch Hill area, suspects broke through the front glass door of a home. Although an alarm was triggered, it was not immediately relayed to the police. Jewelry and cash were reported stolen.
A construction site in the Chippendale/Rodgers Creek area was also targeted. Suspects entered an unsecured garage before forcing entry into the home through an interior door, stealing tools. A multi-unit residential building was broken into twice in Ambleside’s business district. In one case, suspects forced entry into a common-use meeting room through a patio door, though nothing was stolen. In another incident, suspects broke into a parkade and storage area and stole from several units.
Thefts and robberies under investigation
A robbery in Ambleside involved a youth suspect who flashed a weapon to steal items from a store. Police arrested the suspect at a nearby home, where they recovered the stolen items. The gun was found to be a pellet pistol. West Vancouver also saw a string of shoplifting incidents. A suspect in Park Royal was observed concealing items in a store. He was quickly located and arrested, and all stolen property was recovered. There were eight shoplifting reports from Park Royal.
Meanwhile, police are investigating several thefts from vehicles. In the Cedardale area, personal electronics and other items were stolen from a car in an unsecured underground parking area. A similar incident occurred in Horseshoe Bay, where an unlocked vehicle parked on a residential street was targeted, and electronics and sunglasses were taken. A bicycle theft was reported near 15th Street and Mathers Avenue, where a suspect posed as a buyer and requested a test ride of an e-bike for sale. The suspect failed to return with the bike and has since been identified. The investigation remains ongoing.
More thefts included a license plate stolen from a vehicle in the Hillside area of the British Properties and a locking mailbox in the Kenwood area that was damaged and pried open. It remains unclear whether any mail was taken. West Vancouver Police continue investigating these incidents and urge residents to take precautions, including securing vehicles, property, and valuables.
