West Van private school teacher charged with possessing child porn

Staff report
February 23, 2021 12:34pm

A 53-year-old West Vancouver teacher, Luke Lawson, has been charged for possession of child porn.

On September 23, West Vancouver Police arrested him after receiving information that he was in possession of child pornography.

Lawson, who taught at Mulgrave School, was released later the same day on various conditions, which included not to attend any location where children under the age of 16 frequent, or are reasonably expected to be, including parks, playgrounds, swimming pools, and elementary schools.

In the weeks and months following the arrest, officers from the West Vancouver Police Major Investigations Team conducted a lengthy and technical investigation.

As a result of the evidence they gathered, police have recommended one charge of Possession of Child Pornography.

This charge has since been laid by the BC Prosecution Services.

“Our investigators worked diligently to obtain the key evidence needed to recommend criminal charges against this individual,” says Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy of West Vancouver police.

“We understand that this will be alarming news for the community. We want to reassure parents and students that the West Vancouver Police treat offences against children with utmost seriousness and that where evidence exists, we will aggressively pursue charges.”

Lawson’s trial is set for March.
