The District has received a preliminary development proposal for the development of 1591 Haywood Avenue through a Heritage Revitalization Agreement.

The proposal includes subdividing the property into two-fee simple lots facing 16th Street. On the south side, the proponent plans to relocate the historic Clegg House to a new foundation and create a basement on the lower level.

The Clegg House was constructed in 1929, one of the first houses to be constructed on the block. The house is valued for its architecture, age and development period and is an excellent example of the Craftsman style built in the area and is linked to the early architecture and history of West Vancouver.

The proponent also plans to add a garage with vehicle access from 16th Street with a suite above, along with a new coach house facing Haywood Avenue.

On the proposed northern lot, a new home is planned. A Heritage Designation Bylaw would provide for the ongoing legal protection of the heritage home.

However, the proposal has not been formally submitted and is still within the preliminary development application stage.

Once submitted as a formal Heritage Revitalization Agreement application, the District will process the development application in compliance with its bylaw.

The applicant is hosting a virtual preliminary public information meeting on January 25, 2022, from 4 to 5 p.m., to provide information about the proposal.

I wish it would stay as is. Such a beautiful house and property. It’s so hard to find a real “ home”( not a statement home ) nowadays. Walked by this property as a young teenager and up until now as an older adult. Always wanted to live there.
