West Van to implement mandatory vaccination policy

Employees and volunteers will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 4
Staff report
October 28, 2021 7:42am

The District of West Vancouver will implement a mandatory vaccination policy for all employees and volunteers.

As of Tuesday, January 4, 2022, employees and volunteers will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The new policy is consistent with other federal and provincial public service jurisdictions and has two primary goals:

to support public health of the community at large, as vaccines have been proven to be an effective way to prevent COVID-19 and reduce the impacts on our public health system

to continue protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers and their families.

“COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on all of our lives,” said Chief Administrative Officer Robert Bartlett.

“We are all interested in moving past this pandemic, and the most effective way to do so is to promote broad vaccination. We have been and will continue to be responsive to directions and guidance from the Provincial Health Officer as it relates to vaccinations. A small number of exemptions to this policy may apply to employees for legitimate human rights reasons.”

The January 4 timeline was chosen because it gives sufficient time to employees and volunteers who have not yet received the vaccine to become fully vaccinated.
