District of West Vancouver plans to improve and upgrade Marine Drive between West Vancouver and Gleaneagles Drive in the next few years.
In 2018, the District completed a feasibility study to consider upgrading this narrow section of the road in the Eagleridge area.
The District wanted to improve pavement conditions and widen pavement widths to safely accommodate vehicular traffic.
However, the study found it wasn’t practical to provide road widening along the 5900 blocks of Marine Drive, Jen Moller, the Director of Engineering and Transportation in West Vancouver, said while responding to a citizen.
The study found there was risk and danger associated with blasting of uphill rock slopes, and it was difficult to match a widened road with existing driveways and downslope structures.
However, according to Moller, the District plans to revisit the file to explore other solutions to improve the narrow road section for vehicles and bikes.
Moller didn’t specify what upgrades are being planned but said the improvements will be done in the next 2-3 years.
