West Vancouver police are asking the public to help locate a man who grabbed a teenage girl from behind as she walked along Keith Road earlier this month.
The assault happened just before 3:20 p.m. on June 3 in the 6300 block of Keith Road. A man walking northbound approached the girl as she headed south on the sidewalk and attempted to wrap his arms around her. She was able to break free and get away.
After canvassing for witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage, the West Vancouver Police Department has identified a suspect and is working to find him. Police say he is not from West Vancouver.
The suspect is described as a heavyset man in his fifties with a bushy grey beard. When last seen, he was wearing a light brown hoodie, blue shorts, black socks and shoes, and appeared to be limping.
Police say the evidence suggests this was an isolated incident, but are urging people to stay aware of their surroundings, trust their instincts, and call police if they feel unsafe.
Anyone who recognizes the man in the released CCTV image, or who has information about his whereabouts, is asked to contact the West Vancouver Police Department at 604-925-7300 and quote file #26-5575.
