West Vancouver Police has issued a note of caution after a break-in left a local resident’s house ransacked. The theft happened in the area between Ambleside Park and Highway 1 last week provides an unfortunate reminder of some prevention basics, West Vancouver Police said.
A resident returned from early evening errands to find a rear glass door smashed and the home ransacked. The home is equipped with an alarm system including several surveillance cameras, but they were not activated when the resident left the home.
“If you have security alarms or cameras, we encourage you to ensure they are set when you’re away, even if you intend to be gone a short time,” WVPD said. “We encourage you to always be alert to any suspicious persons or circumstances in your neighbourhood, and especially as we are into the time of year when darkness falls very early in the evening.”
Stolen car recovered
Quick response by officers this past week helped bring a stolen vehicle back to its rightful owner. A local resident had reported a stolen car to police. Plainclothes officers located the vehicle entering West Vancouver and worked in close coordination with the Patrol & Traffic section officers. The vehicle was stopped on Taylor Way and the suspect was arrested.
