On April 11, the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (DNVFRS) will host a full-scale wildfire fighting exercise to help plan, coordinate, and execute a multi-agency response to a hypothetical scenario in which a wildfire threatens the nearby Camp Jubilee and surrounding Indian Arm area.
The event will be staged at Panorama Park, with helicopters taking off and landing at Deep Cove Park, from 8:30 am to 4 pm. During the exercise, people in the area can expect to hear and see various first responder vehicles, helicopters, and boats. Please note that this is only a training exercise, and no actual emergency or fire is taking place.
Last year’s wildfire season was the most destructive in BC’s recorded history. Due to the current weather conditions, the 2024 wildfire season is expected to be record-breaking and start earlier. “By practicing emergency response to this scenario, we’re able to test our ability to assess and respond to wildfire threats in the community,” DNV said in a notice.
“This exercise enables us to coordinate a response with our partner agencies to put emergency plans into practice and test inter-agency communication in a realistic and safe environment.
The District of North Vancouver is working closely with DNVFRS to reduce traffic impacts on residents and visitors during the exercise. During the event, signage and traffic control personnel will be posted in the area to prevent traffic congestion.
